Members of Hindu Swayamsevak Sangh UK in Morley held a charity walkathon for the RSPCA Leeds, Wakefield and District branch, with local MP Mark Sewards presenting the cheque in November.

On 13th September 2025, the Morley branch of Hindu Swayamsevak Sangh (UK) hosted its annual charity walkathon. This year, the event supported the RSPCA’s Wakefield and Leeds branch.

A Centre Facing Financial Crisis

Earlier in the year, the RSPCA Leeds, Wakefield and District animal centre in East Ardsley faced a serious financial crisis. The crisis threatened the centre’s very existence. Thanks to generous donations and strong fundraising efforts across the community, enough money was raised to keep the centre running for now. As a result, dedicated staff could continue their vital work, and countless animals in need remained safe and cared for.

Hindu Swayamsevak Sangh UK Members Walk for a Cause

This service event, known within the organisation as Sewa, brought together more than 30 participants. Members of Hindu Swayamsevak Sangh (UK) and local families joined together in support of the cause.

The weather cooperated beautifully, setting the perfect backdrop for a walk along the scenic Meanwood Valley Trail. Participants enjoyed the chance to spend time in nature, with a few light-hearted moments along the way, including some good-natured confusion when a handful of walkers briefly lost their way in the woods.

MP Mark Sewards Presents the Cheque

In mid-November, local MP Mark Sewards joined Hindu Swayamsevak Sangh (UK) members to present the cheque raised through the walkathon. The group also received a tour of the centre, meeting several of the cats currently in its care. The charity expressed heartfelt gratitude for the support shown by Hindu Swayamsevak Sangh (UK).
