UK Parliament Week by Hindu Swayamsevak Sangh (UK) – Engage. Explore. Empower.
UK Parliament Week is an annual event aimed at engaging people across the UK with the Parliament, exploring its relevance to individuals, and empowering them to get involved in the democratic process. The event for 2018 took place from 12-18 November, and it marked the first year HSS (UK) participated on a national level. From Sale to London, HSS (UK) branches enthusiastically took part, making a meaningful contribution with both the younger and older members of the community.
HSS (UK) Sale Ganga Shakha – 18 November 2018
The Sale Ganga Shakha joined with Didsbury Shakha to participate in UK Parliament Week on 18 November. The Chief Guest, Sir Graham Brady MP, the Member of Parliament for Altrincham & Sale and the Chair of the 1922 Committee, was invited to speak.
The event began with a talk titled ‘Parliament – A Temple of Democracy’, where the attendees learned about the essential functions and role of the UK Parliament. Following the talk, a video was shown on the structure and workings of the UK Parliament. Sir Graham Brady then shared his experience and thoughts on a variety of subjects, including the complex issue of Brexit. The final speaker was Sanah, a Kishori (young female participant), who spoke passionately about youth engagement in politics and her role as the Member of Youth Parliament from Trafford.
The event was inspiring and educational, with 80 attendees benefiting from a rich and engaging program.
HSS (UK) Amersham Balgokulam – UK Parliament Week
In Amersham, the Balgokulam also joined in the celebrations of UK Parliament Week. Shrika Madhavapeddi, a participant, shared her thoughts:
“I had great fun and learned a lot about the UK Parliament, the democratic system, and the political processes. I discovered the important role Parliament plays in making new laws and in the governance of the country. The talk by Mr. Damon Clark about Parliament and his involvement in various wings of government was enlightening and entertaining. I conducted a quiz, which was both competitive and enriching. The event was crucial for educating us about the country’s political system, and my favourite part was the quiz and seeing the enthusiasm of my friends. Giving out the ‘Votes for Women’ sashes was also a fun moment, and it was great to see the smiles on everyone’s faces. I look forward to participating in similar events!”
