SEWA DAY – HSS (UK) FINCHLEY: A NOTE OF GRATITUDE
On Sunday, 22nd October 2018, Finchley Shakha participated in Sewa Day, dedicating their time to serve the Finchley Victoria Bowling and Croquet Club—a vital hub for social engagement and gentle exercise for the elderly community in North London.
The volunteers from Hindu Swayamsevak Sangh (HSS UK) arrived early, ready to offer their support. Initially, the club expected around 11 volunteers, but to their delight, a group of 15 enthusiastic and energetic young volunteers turned up, eager to help.
Throughout the day, the volunteers worked diligently and respectfully, ensuring that their service contributed positively to the upkeep and improvement of the club’s facilities. Their hard work, enthusiasm, and community spirit were deeply appreciated by the club members.
Dr. Harsha Jani, one of the organisers, shared heartfelt feedback from Gary Bargroff, President of the Finchley Victoria Bowling & Croquet Club:
“In some respects, I was surprised to see such an age-diverse group of happy and willing young people on a Sunday morning. They stayed, working diligently, demonstrating great care in working within our club and indeed the community.”
“These young people are a credit to the SEWA project, to their parents and family, along with a much-embraced group of community-spirited young adults who are always welcome at our club…. Our friends. Come back soon!”
The experience not only strengthened intergenerational connections but also reinforced the value of selfless service (Sewa) in making a meaningful difference in people’s lives. The volunteers left with immense satisfaction, knowing they had brought joy and companionship to the elderly members of the community.
This spirit of Sewa continues to inspire, and Finchley Shakha looks forward to returning and supporting the club again in the future!
