RUGBY SEWA WALKATHON – HOPE-4-VINAY
JUN 2018 – On Friday 8th June, the Rugby HSS (UK) branch proudly hosted its 14th annual Sewa Walkathon. The event brought together the local community in a spirit of camaraderie and service. The weather was perfect, and the 6 pm start time provided a pleasant and inviting atmosphere for participants of all ages. Over 100 individuals joined the walkathon, with many opting to run the 5-mile route. The walk was not just about physical endurance but also about fostering a sense of togetherness and solidarity within the Shakha members and the wider community.
Participants were encouraged to bring their friends and families, with the event creating a wonderful opportunity for socializing and engaging in meaningful conversations while walking or running through the scenic route. The spirit of unity and enthusiasm filled the air as everyone enjoyed the evening, laughing, sharing stories, and motivating each other along the way. The walkathon was followed by a relaxed and enjoyable picnic, with an abundant selection of savory snacks to refuel and keep the energy high. From homemade dishes to delicious treats, the food spread was as diverse and vibrant as the participants themselves.
As always, the event was more than just an opportunity for physical activity; it was about coming together to support a meaningful cause. This year, the proceeds from the walkathon went towards the Hope 4 Vinay campaign. Vinay, a 4-year-old boy from the local community, has been diagnosed with cerebral palsy. His family is raising funds to provide him with the specialist treatment and rehabilitation he needs to improve his quality of life. The campaign’s goal is to raise £60,000 to help Vinay access the necessary care, and thanks to the generosity of the participants, the walkathon raised a commendable £1,519 towards this noble cause.
By contributing to Hope 4 Vinay, the Rugby HSS (UK) branch has not only supported an important cause but also brought the community closer together. The campaign has already raised over £30,000 in total, and the continued support from local events like this will bring them one step closer to their target.
This walkathon was a heartwarming reminder of the power of community and collective action. It was not just about raising funds for Vinay’s treatment but also about showing that, together, we can make a real difference in the lives of those in need. It was a testament to the values of Sewa (selfless service) and the spirit of giving that is at the core of our community.
Looking forward, the Rugby HSS (UK) branch plans to continue hosting similar events, creating opportunities for people to come together, engage in fun activities, and, most importantly, support causes that make a lasting impact. The Hope 4 Vinay campaign is an inspiring example of what can be achieved when people unite for a common purpose, and the Sewa Walkathon is proud to have played its part in helping bring hope and support to Vinay and his family.
As we look ahead to future events, we remain committed to making a difference and raising awareness for important causes that help improve lives. A heartfelt thank you to all the participants, volunteers, and donors who made this event a success. Your involvement not only helped raise vital funds but also strengthened the bonds within our community. We are truly grateful for your support and look forward to seeing you all at our next event!
