Raksha Bandhan Visit to Thames Valley Air Ambulance by High Wycombe Branch of HSS (UK)
Hindu Swayamsevak Sangh (UK), commonly known as HSS (UK), encourages its members to engage with and appreciate those who serve society through the values of Seva (selfless service), Sanskar (values and character), and Sangathan (unity). As part of the Raksha Bandhan (the sacred bond of protection) celebrations, HSS (UK) Adishankara Branch in High Wycombe organised a special visit to Thames Valley Air Ambulance in Stokenchurch on Friday, 19th September.
Around 18 volunteers participated in the hour-long visit. Despite it being a weekday and close to school hours, there was a good turnout for the occasion.
Although most of the paramedics were out responding to emergency calls when the group arrived, the team kindly arranged a fascinating behind-the-scenes tour of the facility. Participants were shown the equipment room where specialist medical bags and emergency kits are stored, ready to be deployed at a moment’s notice. Each bag is carefully prepared for different types of emergencies, including cardiac arrest response, airway management, trauma care, and treatment for severe bleeding.
The group also had the opportunity to see the fully equipped response car, which carries the same life-saving medical equipment as the air ambulance helicopter. Even without the paramedics present, the visit provided a deeper appreciation of the preparation, coordination, and dedication involved in delivering this critical service to the community.
As part of the Raksha Bandhan celebrations, participants tied Rakhi (sacred thread symbolising protection and gratitude) to two crew members as a gesture of respect and appreciation for their commitment to protecting lives. The Branch also presented a box of chocolates, a flower bouquet, and a contribution of £211, generously donated by Branch members.
During the visit, a few of the children shared the significance of Raksha Bandhan, explaining how the festival celebrates bonds of care, protection, and gratitude towards those who safeguard society.
The visit left participants with a profound sense of admiration for the remarkable work carried out by the Thames Valley Air Ambulance team and the dedication required to respond to emergencies across the region.
On behalf of all participants, sincere thanks were expressed to the HSS (UK) Adishankara High Wycombe team for organising this meaningful and memorable visit.
