HSS (UK) takes the International Day of Yoga nationwide
London, UK – The annual International Day of Yoga (IDY) on June 21st has gained global recognition, thanks to an initiative led by the Honorable Prime Minister of India, Shri Narendra Modi. Over the years, this event has been embraced worldwide, promoting messages of peace, harmony, and well-being.
One of the key contributors to this initiative in the UK is HSS (UK), an organisation that encompasses Hindu Swayamsevak Sangh. Since the inception of IDY, HSS (UK) has played an active role in its celebrations. This year, the organization has expanded its efforts, organizing Yoga events in over 30 cities and towns across the country, with more than 2,500 participants expected to take part.
Each event is designed to be inclusive, offering an invigorating Yoga program suitable for all abilities. The sessions focus on Ashtanga Yoga, a traditional practice that emphasizes discipline and mindfulness. Beyond physical exercise, participants also gain insight into the philosophy and history of Yoga, fostering a deeper appreciation of its holistic benefits.
HSS (UK) has also been selected as a partner by the High Commission of India to coordinate formal celebrations in London. These events will take place at India House, Aldwych, and the historic St. Paul’s Cathedral, bringing together practitioners and enthusiasts to commemorate the occasion.
For over 50 years, HSS (UK) has been at the forefront of promoting Yoga through structured weekly sessions across its 110 centres nationwide. The organization has introduced Yoga to people of all ages, starting from as young as four years old, encouraging them to incorporate it into their daily lives for improved physical and mental well-being. This commitment to Yoga continues to benefit individuals across generations, supporting a healthy lifestyle well into old age.
Beyond its physical aspects, Yoga conveys a powerful message of unity and collective well-being. Rooted in the principle of Sarve Bhavantu Sukhinah—”May all be happy”—Yoga has the potential to uplift the human spirit and strengthen communities. By fostering self-improvement, it empowers individuals to contribute positively to those around them, reinforcing the broader message of harmony and well-being in society.
With growing participation and support, the International Day of Yoga continues to thrive as a symbol of global unity and personal transformation, reaffirming its relevance in today’s fast-paced world.
