First-Ever Blood Donation Drive by Subham Balagokulam in Cumbria
In August 2018, Subham Balagokulam, Cumbria, successfully hosted its first-ever Blood Donation Drive in collaboration with Sewa Day and NHS Blood & Transplant. This milestone event marked a significant moment for the local Hindu community.
A Balagokulam is a Hindu community group designed for children, typically organised by HSS (UK). Hindu Swayamsevak Sangh (HSS (UK)) is a voluntary, non-profit cultural organisation dedicated to preserving and promoting Hindu values, heritage, and community service in the UK.
The drive saw an enthusiastic response, with volunteers and donors coming together in the spirit of Sewa (selfless service). Nurses at the event noted that this was the first time they had seen a well-organized group of Asian blood donors in Cumbria, highlighting the impact of community-led initiatives in promoting blood donation awareness.
Among the attendees were HariKishan ji and Daksha ji, who traveled from Leeds to support the event. They also spoke about other Sewa initiatives inspired by HSS (UK), encouraging further community engagement in humanitarian efforts.
This event marks an important step toward fostering a culture of regular blood donation in the region, reinforcing the values of service and giving back to society.
