DIWALI BASKET BRIGADE – A FESTIVAL OF GIVING
The spirit of Diwali – the festival of light and giving – was beautifully embodied in Birmingham, where over 50 dedicated volunteers gathered at Tividale Temple to collate and distribute over 300 Diwali Hampers and Food Bags to the most vulnerable members of society in and around the West Midlands.
This inspirational initiative was led by Shri Deepak Parikh, a dedicated Swayamsevak from Birmingham, whose vision and determination made this project a reality. Public organisations identified families and individuals in need, and volunteers personally delivered hampers door-to-door, ensuring that those most affected by hardship could still experience the warmth and joy of Diwali.
The project was entirely funded through donations and fundraising efforts, amounting to an incredible £6,300. The success of the initiative was further bolstered by generous contributions from international corporations, including East End Food and KTC, among others.
More than just an act of charity, this effort strengthened community bonds and highlighted the true essence of Sewa—selfless service and compassion. Seeing the overwhelming impact of the initiative, Deepak Parikh now envisions expanding the Diwali Basket Brigade to a national scale next year.
