When the Springbank Project’s Operational and Development Manager reached out on short notice for volunteers to join a community litter pick, Cheltenham Balagokulam didn’t hesitate. On Friday, 1st March 2019, despite existing commitments, 10-year-old Aarika, her father Rajji, and Poonam Manocha stepped forward to represent the group and support the local community.

Driven by the principle that collective effort brings strength—“Sangathan Mein Shakti Hein!”—the volunteers embraced the opportunity to contribute. The pleasant weather added to the experience, making the task feel less like work and more like a shared mission.

As they moved through the Spring Bank area of Cheltenham, picking up litter alongside local community members and council representatives, they were met with warm appreciation. The interactions reinforced the importance of community spirit and environmental responsibility.

By the end of the two-hour clean-up, the volunteers felt a deep sense of accomplishment. The event not only left the area cleaner but also strengthened the bond between the Balagokulam members and the wider community, embodying the true essence of Sewa (selfless service).
