Charity Through Adventure: The 12th Yorkshire 3 Peaks Challenge
May 2018 – The 12th edition of the Yorkshire 3 Peaks Challenge took place under glorious weather, with 502 participants making it a memorable and enjoyable event. The challenge is all about pushing oneself to the physical and mental limit, and it was inspiring to see participants encouraging each other to keep going. The support and camaraderie on display were a true testament to the spirit of the event, with many personal stories and experiences shared along the way. Photos from the day will be cherished by participants for years to come.
Many walkers were first-timers, and a number of them brought children along. While the weather was perfect, the strong winds created challenges that delayed some walkers and led many to retire after completing two peaks. A standout moment was when a father and son duo from Slough—aged just 8—became the youngest team ever to complete three peaks, finishing in an impressive 12.20 hours. The previous record was held by a 9-year-old a few years ago.
All proceeds from the event were donated to Sewa UK (Charity No. 1135425). As of June 8, 2018, the event raised just over £18,000 for the charity.
Charity Through Adventure (CTA) has, over the years, provided countless opportunities for people to train and enjoy hill walking. The event’s team of experienced guides played a vital role in ensuring the safety and well-being of all walkers. Even those who finished just outside the 12-hour target were celebrated for their perseverance.
Behind the scenes, 25 volunteers worked tirelessly, managing registration, providing first aid, coordinating transport, and serving refreshments such as water, fruits, samosas, nuts, chocolates, and hot drinks. All litter was carefully collected and participants were encouraged to take it home for proper disposal.
