Shikshak Vandana Celebration in Sale: Honouring Teachers and Parents
Honoring Teachers and Parents
On December 9, 2018, the annual Shikshak Vandana Utsav (Teachers’ Day celebration) was observed at Ashton-on-Mersey School, bringing together the local community in a heartfelt tribute to educators.
The term ‘Shikshak’, derived from Sanskrit, means teacher, and it highlights the pivotal role that teachers play in imparting knowledge, wisdom, and guidance, removing ignorance from their students’ lives. ‘Vandana’ means devotional worship, signifying an occasion where students express their gratitude and respect to their gurus (teachers).

The event featured several highlights, including:
- A special inauguration by Cllr Rob Chilton, Deputy Mayor of Trafford
- The presence of ten teachers from local primary schools in Sale and Altrincham
- A showcase of Balagokulam’s annual activities, featuring physical fitness demonstrations, music, singing, and debates
- A stunning performance of Ni-Yuddh, an Indian martial art, by teenagers
- A display of yoga techniques by parents
- A heartfelt teacher felicitation ceremony, where students honored their mentors
- A delicious vegetarian feast, bringing the community together in celebration
Shikshak Vandana also serves as an opportunity to reflect on the pivotal role of parents, particularly mothers, as the first teachers in a child’s life. This celebration serves as a reminder of the contributions of not only formal educators but also the countless mentors who guide us throughout our lives.
As we honor the teachers who shape our futures, we express our deep gratitude to them for their dedication. Thank you to all the educators for your invaluable work!
