Hindu Swayamsevak Sangh (UK) – Adarsh Parivaar Shakha, Liverpool – UK Parliament Week
On Friday, 16th November 2018, HSS (UK) – Adarsh Family Shakha, Liverpool, actively participated in UK Parliament Week, engaging 35 attendees in an educational and interactive session about the workings of the UK Parliament.
The session was designed to give participants a practical experience of parliamentary procedures. Attendees were divided into two equal groups—one representing the House of Commons and the other the House of Lords. Each group took on the respective roles of MPs and Lords, engaging in discussions that mirrored real parliamentary debates.
After their individual group activities, both houses came together to simulate a parliamentary session, discussing how laws are debated and passed, the roles of different members, and the importance of structured debate in a democracy.
To further enhance understanding, the participants watched videos of real parliamentary sessions, including Prime Minister’s Questions (PMQs), which takes place every Wednesday. These clips provided valuable insights into how government officials debate policies, challenge decisions, and interact in the democratic process.
The session was highly informative and engaging, with both children and parents actively participating and gaining a greater appreciation for the UK’s democratic system. The event successfully encouraged young minds to think critically about political engagement, governance, and decision-making—all in a fun and interactive manner.
