On Saturday, July 21, 2018, over 200 delegates from more than 30 British Hindu organizations gathered at Bushey Academy for the inaugural British Hindu Conclave, hosted by HSS (UK). The event brought together a diverse group of professionals—scientists, lawyers, social workers, medical doctors, philosophers, writers, armed forces personnel, and members of various Hindu organizations—to discuss the contributions of British Hindus to society and explore the challenges the community faces.

The proceedings were led by Professor Nawal Prinja, Dr. Poonam Kakkar, and Dr. Tribhovan Jotangia, who chaired the event.

Prominent figures from the Hindu community and British politics attended, including Rt. Hon. Keith Vaz MP and Lord Jitesh Gadhia, who shared their thoughts on fostering better relationships between British Hindus and the authorities, as well as improving Hindu representation in British politics.

As the third-largest religious group in the UK, British Hindus are known for their strong work ethic, law-abiding nature, and tolerance. Yet, despite their positive contributions, they often face marginalization when it comes to addressing issues that affect the community as a whole. The conclave aimed to highlight these challenges and discuss ways to raise awareness and promote better recognition for the community’s contributions.

The event fostered a lively Q&A session, sparking positive discussions and ideas for the future. The outcomes of the conclave will be formally published at the House of Commons.
